Have you or has your child got a distended tummy and have you ever monitored how frequently your child may move a stool? These are simple questions to answer and easy symptoms to identify yet they often go undetected.
Identified GAPS disorders are frequently and commonly associated with infrequent bowel function and constipation. Constipation means different things to different people. For many people, it simply means infrequent passage of stool (faeces). For others, however, it means hard stools, difficulty passing them (straining), or a sense of incomplete emptying after a bowel movement causing faecal compaction.
Faecal compaction is a large mass of dry, hard stool pooling with toxins that can develop on the inside of the intestinal wall and in the rectum due to chronic constipation. This mass may be so hard that it cannot come out of the body in the normal fashion and remains as an accumulative solid mass attached to the gut wall. Watery stool from higher in the bowel may move around the mass and leak out, causing soiling or diarrhoea in both adults and children.Other stools may pass through with discomfort, presenting as dry small round pebbles, indicating that they have struggled to transit through the digestive tract and have been in the bowel for a prolonged time. Constipation is also a sign of deficient gut flora.A healthy gut biome is strongly associated with good bowel function, especially in the large intestine to produce proper stool elimination.
The accumulative faeces backing up in the large intestine causing faecal compaction is subject to fermentation and toxic putrefaction. The consequence in neglecting to clean the colon produces a fertile ground for the propagation of pathogenic bacteria for pathogens to feed and produce toxins that are known to contaminate the blood and be precursors of sickness and disease.
A castor oil pack is an external heat application of castor oil to the abdomen. A woolen flannel is saturated with castor oil and applied to the abdomen with heat applied. Castor Oil packs were first recommended by Edgar Cayce to improve assimilations, eliminations, and circulation (especially of the lymphatic system) and in particular to breakup adhesions of the lacteal glands. Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride recommends caster oil packs to assist in the management of fecal compaction. Although this application may seem unusual, it is well documented as a traditional natural treatment and can be applied at home. It was also recommended, as part of a holistic approach, for epilepsy, gallstones, scleroderma, chronic constipation and many other intestinal conditions.
GAPS Diet Australia have put together a Caster Oil Pack with an in depth instruction brochure. You may view our kit here: https://shop.gapsaustralia.com.au/caster-oil-pack-...
