Gut and Psychology Syndrome Revised & Expanded Edition
Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAP Syndrome or GAPS) is a condition which establishes a connection between the functions of the digestive system and the brain. This term was created by Dr Natasha Campbell–McBride, MD, MMedSci (neurology), MMedSci (human nutrition) in 2004 after working with hundreds of children and adults with neurological and psychiatric conditions, such as autistic spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD⁄ADD), schizophrenia, dyslexia, dyspraxia, depression, obsessive –compulsive disorder, bi-polar disorder and other neuro-psychological and psychiatric problems.
Gut and Physiology Syndrome: 520 Page
This book was considered the long awaited sequel to Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride's first book Gut and Psychology Syndrome which literally filled the GAPS (mind the pun) in understanding how her protocol has been successfully applied to so many other diseases and autoimmune conditions.
The first GAPS book focused on learning disabilities and mental illness, but people all over the world have been using the GAPS Nutritional Protocol for healing from physical illnesses too. This inspired Dr. Natasha to write her new GAPS book, “Gut and Physiology Syndrome”, which focuses on the rest of the human body and completes the GAPS holistic concept. Allergies, autoimmune issues, digestive dysfunction, neurological and endocrine problems, asthma, eczema, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, chronic cystitis, arthritis, and many other chronic degenerative illnesses are covered.
Dr. Natasha believes that the link between the gut and physical/mental health, the food and drink we take, and the health of the digestive system are undeniably connected. Her deep understanding of these concepts put her advice in a class of its own.
Who is Dr Natasha
Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride is a medical doctor with two postgraduate degrees: Master of Medical Sciences in Neurology and Master of Medical Sciences in Human Nutrition.
She graduated as a medical doctor in Russia. After practising for five years as a Neurologist and three years as a Neurosurgeon she started a family and moved to the UK, where she got her second postgraduate degree in Human Nutrition. She practices in the UK as a nutritionist and not as a medical doctor.
She is well known for developing the concept of GAPS which is an abbreviation for 'GAP Syndrome' with two interchangeable meanings titled from her two most famous books - 'Gut And Psychology Syndrome' & 'Gut and Physiology Syndrome'. Thousands of people around the world follow the highly successful GAPS Nutritional Protocol to help themselves and their families.
In her clinic Dr Campbell-McBride worked as a nutritional consultant with many patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, stroke and other complications of atherosclerosis. She has become acutely aware of the existing confusion about nutrition and these conditions, which spurred an intensive study into this subject. The result of this study was her book 'Put Your Heart In Your Mouth' - What Really Is Heart Disease And What We Can Do To Prevent And Even Reverse It.
In her work Dr Natasha came across many young people who have chosen a plant-based life style and, as a result, became very ill. This prompted an intense study into the value of plant foods versus animal foods. The result of that study is her book Vegetarianism Explained. Making an Informed Decision. Dr Campbell-McBride gives a full scientific description of how animal and plant foods are digested and used by the human body. This book is an essential read for those who are considering a plant-based life style, so they can make an informed decision.
Dr Campbell-McBride is a keynote speaker at many professional conferences and seminars around the world. She frequently gives talks to health practitioners, patient groups and associations. She is also a Member of The Society of Authors, The British Society for Ecological Medicine, and is a Director on the Advisory Board of The Weston A Price Foundation. She has contributed to many books on nutrition and is a regular contributing health editor to a number of magazines and newsletters. Dr Campbell-McBride has trained and certified thousands of GAPS Practitioners and GAPS Coaches with her GAPS Training Team and spends much of her valuable time also running an organic farm.
